Evrod Cassimy is a TV News anchor for NBC in Chicago, IL, a singer/songwriter, a 6x Emmy nominated journalist and a philanthropist.
Cassimy has been singing since three years old and writing music as a teen. He began singing in church but his love for writing led him to a pursue a career in journalism. He moved to the great city of Chicago and studied at Columbia College Chicago. There, he continued his love for music, singing and performing across the city including in front of a packed crowd at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
As Cassimy’s career in journalism began, he continued writing music. In 2018 he started his own independent record label, Everything Evrod Entertainment. This would be the beginning of his philanthropic work, using his music to raise money for inner city high school students. His first album, “Newzic” (News and Music) was released that same year. The following year brought “Just Evrod,” an album which included a special interlude with the legendary Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin singing to him. She was a close friend. The follow up to “Just Evrod” was an album called “E3” which was named by the fans of Cassimy’s music. Each album led to several singles that were played all over radio in Detroit, MI. Goodbye Evrod: A look back at Evrod Cassimy’s 9-year career at WDIV
DETROIT – Local 4 News morning anchor Evrod Cassimy is leaving WDIV after spending nine years in the Motor City.
The beloved anchor, father and musician has decided to leave Detroit and return to his hometown, Chicago, to work for NBC-affiliate station WMAQ. He announced the move in September, and his last day on air with WDIV is Friday, Nov. 4.
“I thank you, our viewers, for an incredible experience. Thank you for loving me and my family, thank you for your hand written letters, the gifts for my newborn children, for the sympathy cards through some of the difficult times in my life, for helping support my fundraising efforts for Detroit high school students through my music and for simply saying ‘What up doe?’ when you’d see me in public,” Evrod said in his farewell announcement. “These past nine years have made me a better journalist and storyteller and I’m forever grateful for you choosing to invite me into your homes each and every morning.”
